The Alumni platform has a new tool:
a mentoring space!
This free online service enables network members who wish to share their experiences and knowledge to get in touch with each other. Thus, it aims to create links and encourage mutual help between network members. It's a tool based on sharing values with transparency and benevolence.
How to use the online mentoring service? Here are the steps to follow and tips for a successful match:
1. Introduce yourself
1- Log in to the UBFC Alumni network with your email and password
2- Click on "update my profile" and carefully fill in your profile: your education, your experiences, your skills... This step is essential to complete your mentoring space.
2. Access the Mentoring space
3. Identify your expectations
Indicate your mentoring preferences and choose:
- the mentorship type(s) you want:
The goal is to accompany or be accompanied over a period of 3 to 12 months, with goals for the mentee. The mentee benefits from the experience and knowledge that a mentor can bring to him or her, or the sharing of skills.
Sometimes the mentee has a specific request that the mentor can answer at the first meeting and the relationship does not need to last longer. This is express mentoring, lasting from one to a few hours, but rarely more. It is used when a member has very specific needs.
- your role(s) in the relationship
- your topic(s) of discussion
- your skills, etc.
example of a mentor search:
4. Get started
- Choose a person among the matching proposals and get in touch.
- Specify your means of communication (phone, integrated videoconference or messaging) and your available time slots for an exchange.
5. Keep in touch
- Nurture exchanges in a friendly and caring manner
- You can deactivate your mentor profile for a while so that it no longer appears in search and recommendation results. You will not be able to be solicited as a mentor but you can still be a mentee if you want to.
- If you need help, don't hesitate to contact us.
- Talk about it around you to make the UBFC Alumni network live.
6. Closing of the exchanges
Whether it is a mentoring relationship or a meet and share (short and punctual relationship), when your pairing comes to an end and you have met the various needs, you have the possibility to give your appreciation on the quality of the exchanges with a rating system. This appreciation is not visible to other members but only to the administrators of the platform in order to control the quality of the tool. Of course and if you wish, you can continue your exchanges outside the UBFC Alumni network.
